The picture sez it all
The Missus and I are still reeling with the intestinal virus our sweet little daughter thought necessary to share. Maybe I can get something drawn tomorrow and posted as not to be a total waste of blogspace.
ah the joys of ye olde stomach bug. gotta hate them damn things! hope you guys kick it soon! funny pic too. as far as a waste of blogspace-the best thing about these is you can do whatever you feel like it, even if it's someone posting from the royal throne room! haha
Ya gotta love your kids for the ablility to spread germs about the home... If you are able to, kick back, relax, watch Rawhead Rex...I too, once enjoyed this flic! Haven't seen it as a kid, which scares me due to a handful of flics I enjoyed as a kid & recently going back to enjoy hasn't lived up to that childhood luster...
I did the same thing, McGill, when I started up with NetFlix. "Boy, I can watch all those great monster movies from when I was kid now." It's been a painful learning process that the great films of my childhood are pretty much unwatchable in most cases.
"The Gate" was the last one I dared try and forced myself to sit through it. Back in the day it was the mad notes 'cuz my brother and I were into the cheesy rockets and geodes. I think we even tried to dig up the appletree in the backyard much to our parents dismay.
Luckily, "The Monster Sqaud" held up to the test of time. It's renewed my faith enough that I might delve back into those childhood movies...
LOL...man, The Gate...remember part 2? Sheesh! Same thing with Troll... There is a flic out there that I have been trying to get a hold of, Saturday the 14th!... A farce on Horror, but I need to see it! I might try Netflix...
You have to watch those movies with context in mind. We're all spoiled by CGI and digital cameras now. I love those old crappy horror movies from the '80s because the filmmakers were inspired by the shoestring budget and really innovated. Doesn't excuse some of the abyssmal scripts, but still...
By the way, are those your cats? Looks like the one on the bottom could use some air support. You know what I'm talkin' about...the old AIRZOOKA!!!
Haha! I remember Saturday the 14th quite well with the Merman/Creature From The Black Lagoon coming up out of the tub while the daughter was taking a bath. It had some cheesy tagline along the lines of: "If you thought things were bad on Friday the 13th, wait until Saturday the 14th!" Damn. I may have to look that up, too.
I'll be the first to admitt I luv the old stuff, and most is better than the cgi (just doesn't feel right at times). Just some of that old stuff is beyond the humble word. Before Monster Squad came back out on DVD, I was in a bidding war on ebay for one...high stakes! Glad I lost... I have 5 different versions of DOTD78, from across the globe...and as soon as I feel no remorse for it, they come back out...but its an awesome flic anywho... I'm still looking for the alternate version of Halloween 6...
Dude! I'd never watched any of the HALLOWEEN sequels beyond 3 (which I love, by the way) but caught up on 4, 5 and 6 on AMC this past Halloween. They were great! Well, awful but...great!
I remember going with a buddy to watch those Halloweens in the theater. I kept rooting for Michael to take out that little girl (was she his niece or something?), but once she put on the clown outfit and the red Robin mask I kinda tuned out.
Now Friday the 13th, especially Jason Takes Manhattan, were the mad notes. All the high-school archetypes on one cruise systematically getting taking out in standard Voorhee's fashion. The best was the jock, who was a boxer, punch Jason all the way across a roof only to run out of steam (and skin on his knuckles) before he could KO Jason off the roof. Guess Jock-o never thought of a dropkick?
There are two versions of Halloween 6...when I say that, I mean two movies...the first I think (crap, cannot remember his name, kick me in the arse later)Dr. Loomis had alot more to do with the story, but the actor died, so they re-wrote the whole thing...using bits from the first one...I'll have to investigate this more... I own the Friday the 13th series! and most of the Halloweens...and a handful of "so horrible they are good" zombie flics. One of the crown jewels is Hell of the Living Dead, I believe by Bruno Mattei(sp?)...if the cheesy effects don't make you laugh...the wildlife stock film for filler will!
I use to log plenty of time on the Sci-Fi channel...miss them showing the old incredible hulk series...I think they just ran Sasquatch Mountain a while back, again...
