A few days shy of a month.

As Mafus pointed out to me yesterday, "Dude, you gonna post something or what? It's been almost a month." That statement took me back a bit as I like to think I'm somewhat regular about posting. Guess life's been flashing by too darn much as of late. So without further ado...here's a vampiric Hawk-Girl drawn by Uncle Byrnie and inked by yours truly. I still haven't found my original inking gear and was forced to buy a new brush and quills. I tried to ink most of this with a brush mainly because I'm stubborn, but luckily reason took over and I threw some quill work up in it. As with all my stuff I like sections and hate others, but it's been too long since I actually inked I can't complain too hard.

Very much looking forward to Heroes Con this weekend. Not looking forward to the drive though. While it won't be the same I still think a good time will be had by all. Plenty of friends, announcements and celebrations to keep away the gloomy feelings. If you're attending make sure to stop by Mafus' booth and pick up Mike's WHAT IF? tribute book. Then head all the way over (one booth actually) to Craig and Todd's place and spend like crazy.

In other news...if you haven't seen HULK yet, you need to do so. No spoilers, just trust me.

hey man great job! that came out totally bad ass! how much was brush and how much was quills? i really need to get hankering on some art, one of these days...

i wish i was going to heroes, sounds like it's going to be one helluva weekend. so much going on, although i'm po' so i wouldn't be able to half of what i'd like to even if i were able to go.

i will be making it to baltimore though.

Thanks, Mike. I'd say it's about 75% brush and 25% quill. Most of the thin line work and decent looking crosshatch are quill. All the other wonky lines are brush.

Yeah, my budget isn't what it was last year, but I'm sure I'll still come back with a treasure trove of trades and art.

Still up in the air on Baltimore mainly 'cuz I don't think the wife would let me go for another long weekend and leave her with the Lilah. Then there's that budget thing, too. Maybe a day jaunt. I dunno.

Glad to see that you posted - hope you get back to posting regularly. I'm trying to get back to posting to other people's blog regularly. Todd has been kind enough to pick up a copy of 'What If' to send me. I'm looking forward to seeing it. Also looking forward to seeing the Incredible Hulk. I've always been a big fan of the hulk - loved the tv show as a kid.

hey saw the hulk last night! really good, not quite iron man good but very very good job. i was very reminded of the tv series with it. but yeah def. worth the price of admission.

how long did it take you to 'take' to inking with a brush? i've been on and off again with them and it's just not for me, can't seem to get it down right.

I "took" to inking with a brush fairly early. Once I got tired of smearing ink with Rapidograph I decided I'd had enough of her and went right to Brush, who I went steady with for many a year, then I met Crow Quill and ended our engagement. Stupid I know, but I was young and foolish. The ink is always blacker on the other side, right? I learned the error of my ways and after several pleading phone calls Brush and I are back together. (Though I still talk to Crow Quill and her family of Quills. Keep that under your hat.)

I remember my "first time" with a brush. Mike was inking backgrounds for Bob Downs (I think) on BLOOD OF DRACULA and I borrowed one of his brushes and some ink. I grabbed some of my pencil stuff that I was pretty proud of and went to it. PLOPPP-PLATT-PLOOOP! Totally botched it.

Your first time is always disappointing and often messy but you never forget it.

The most important thing to know is that you should always tape down/secure your bottle of ink. There's nothing like spilling ink all over an almost finished page, yourself and the floor.

i've used a quill pen a few times. i dunno why but i didn't like it. that was a long time ago. i used to wanna be Simon Bisley for the longest time so i learned how to so those crazy splash effects with the ink. then i found it just took too long, and so i went with pens/markers. i've tried brush markers but for some reason they never seem dark enough to me.

i learned to never draw in bed with the pen and ink. being the angsty teen an not wanting people to see my stuff i would draw in the only place i felt comfortable, until the one day the ink fell over. yeah, i don't tell this story often......
